Typo Cryptid B.D.H. Part 1

Sometimes you just need to be silly.

I’d been debating if my theme for March would be Disney or Animal Hybrids.

I planned to start with Jiminy Cricket either way. And I have!

Jiminy is going to take more time than I anticipated because I’m using a plastic Bug’s Life action figure as a base. That means I’m using Apoxie Sculpt because I can’t bake plastic.

Then I remembered a terrible I’d had.

I bought a big bag of dolls last year and with the dolls came a plastic horse. I’ve never been a horse-loving girl. I almost gave it to Goodwill with the other items I didn’t think I’d use. But I kept it.

Innocents with no idea what is to come next

A few weeks ago a thought struck me.

Barbie Dream Horse: A Typo Cryptid

This won’t be the first horrible typo creature I’ve made because I thought of a name that amused me too much

I once made a Garfield/ Tarman (the zombie from The Return of the Living Dead) hybrid sculpture I called Tarfield. I’ll tell you about him in my next post.

It’s a good thing that I was never a horse loving girl because last night, while waiting for my friends to join me on a multi-coast Zoom hang out, I started to take apart my horse.

With router tool I removed the face.

I used a wedge and a rubber mallet to open up the horse at her joining seam

I’m a normal girl who does normal things.

I sacrificed a baggie Barbie’s head.

Forbidden Cadburry Egg

I removed the head, hair, cut it open, and lined her skull with Apoxie Sculpt so it wouldn’t be squishy.

Smile

When the head Apoxie Sculpt sets I’ll wire her head in and join it to the horse with more Apoxie Sculpt.

The tail can now be told. Wokka Wokka Wokka

Like many preloved toys, this horse’s hair had been tangled and abused enough to be frizzled out of shape.

The mane attraction. I’ll be here all night

That’s ok, I had some random wefts I once bought from Wish

A lovely blue/pink ombre

Tomorrow when the head filler is solid I’ll continue!

Now, until we meet again may I make a suggestion. If you love animal hybrids ( or Chicago, or oppossum, or cephalopods, or cool art in general ) you should check out my buddy Phineas X Jones’s work.

The Octophant. It Should not be… by Phineas Jones

You can get his art here. I have MANY prints.

And this is his Threadless store so you can wear his art and show everyone how cool you are.
